Liars fifth album Sisterworld is, we can tell you right now, a humdinger of the highest proportions. It is brutal and violent and heavy and cruel, yet paints a picture of how we can all escape the terrible madness of this thing we call the modern world.
Anyway, to supplement the album Liars are releasing a second disc of "remixes and reinterpretations" of each track. These feature… drum roll… a duet with Alan Vega of Suicide! Thom Yorke! TV On The Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe! Bradford Cox! The Melvins! Chris & Cosey! Blonde Redhead! Shit bricks but that’s exciting.
We recently spoke with Angus Andrew about the second disc. Liars have always been known for going that bit extra with their releases, such as the films all the band members made to accompany Drum’s Not Dead. This time around, he says, "We were asked how to bolster this packaging, and would you like to put a film in there, or something of that nature, but we ended up working on this idea which I think has come out to be pretty exciting."
"We’ve basically got friends of ours who are musicians to do covers or remixes of every song on Sisterworld" he explained. "There’s a whole bunch of really interesting artists who are reinterpreting each song. It turned out to be a really exciting project. Well shit, I don’t know how much I’m supposed to tell, but I can definitely say that one song I duet with Alan Vega, that’s the second track, and Chris and Cosey from Throbbing Gristle are doing something. I feel like we’ve got the point where we could ask anyone to be involved, and the amazing thing was that no-one I asked to get involved said no."
Sisterworld is out on March 8th, and it will turn your brains into steak tartare. Visit the digital Sisterworld for a preview of what’s in store.
