The Quietus Reductive & Subjective Albums Of The Year 20 – 1

We continue the countdown of our favourite records of 2009

Last week we published the first part of our annual list, which you can read here.

The top twenty follows a similar trajectory, reflecting nothing more than what we listen to in the office — mainly psych rock, African pop, doom metal, shoegaze, synthpop and horrortronix.

We hope that our list makes refreshing reading to anyone who doesn’t consider Mad Man’s Breakfast by Kasabian to be anything other than an affront to their dignity and intelligence.

If any of these albums are news to you then we’ve compiled a Spotify playlist featuring most of the bands and artists here plus some others who recorded our favourite one-off tracks of the year.

For those who haven’t already been dragged to the edge of reason by overexposure to lists, our top 20 reissues, compilations and mixes chart will go up on Thursday.
