His name "is now mud" amongst record collectors

Former Joy Division and New Order bassist Peter Hook has admitted to forging Ian Curtis's signature on various pieces of Joy Division memorabilia.

Hook told Contact Music that he earned "a reputation" for faking Curtis's signature, and revealed he recently found one of the items with a forged autograph at a record shop in Manchester.

He said: "There's some guy who had [Joy Division debut] An Ideal for Living and it was signed by all four members of the band and dated.

"I went in and said, 'Have you not noticed that the date is after Ian died?'. It was me, I did them as a joke!

"It was up there for £200, so my name is now mud among collectors."

Joy Division memorabilia was just one of the topics Hooky spoke to The Quietus about in our exclusive interview earlier this year. Click here to read it.
