Peter Howson’s painting of Madonna naked with a sinister-looking Guy Ritchie crawling up her thigh has failed to sell at auction after not reaching its reserve.
The painting did attract bids at the sale at McTear’s Auctioneers, but they never reached the £15,000 reserve.
"The auction was very successful, however, surprisingly Peter Howson’s controversial piece Madonna and Guy did not sell on the day," said Brian Clements of McTear’s.
"The painting is still for sale and we would be delighted to hear from anyone who is interested in this much talked about piece of Scottish art history."
