Much-loved Leeds nightclub Wire is to close permanently in June.

The venue, which is based on Call Lane and opened in July 2005 after replacing former club Think Tank, will host its final event on June 1, with lineup details for that last party yet to be announced.

News of the club's closure was confirmed on social media today (April 19) with venue management citing the cost of living crisis, as well as wider issues in the nightlife sector, as reasons for the decision to close the club's doors.

"Since reopening after the pandemic the UK nightlife industry had been under immense pressure which we have not been immune to," the club's statement said. "The cost-of-living crisis and changing lifestyle choices coinciding with other looming commercial challenges unique to the venue has gradually led to the unavoidable outcome that the club can no longer operate as a viable business."

Wire has been one of Leeds' leading venues for underground electronic music bookings, with the likes of Objekt, Helena Hauff, DJ Stingray 313, Andrew Weatherall, SHERELLE and many more having played there over the years. It also provided a space for various promoters to curate lineups and put on their own parties, with Pearson Sound's vinyl-focused Acetate series being one of the venue's longest-running residencies.

Vladimir Ivkovic and Dave Clarke are among the DJs booked to play at Wire over the next six weeks before it hosts its final party.
