Dublin four-piece Lankum share a Stephen McCollum-directed animated video for new album track

Today sees the release of the second album from Dublin four-piece Lankum via Rough Trade. It's their first album for the label, and premiering above, to coincide with its release, is a video for album track 'The Granite Gaze'.

Lankum describe the track, which features on the album titled Between the Earth & Sky, as being "dedicated to the women and children of Ireland, past and present". The video is made by cult Irish filmmaker Stephen McCollum who is also responsible for the Pullin' The Devil By The Tail animated short film series.

McCollum describes the video as "a metaphysical allegory exploring mankind's capacity for ignorance and destruction of innocence in the face of celestial mystery, expressed in plasticine".

As a band, Lankum traditionally combine four-part vocal harmonies with their respective members' instruments of choice, be they uilleann pipes, concertina, accordion, fiddle or guitar. Their music spans from Dublin street-songs to traditional Traveller ballads from the Traveller tradition, as well as traditional Irish and American dance tunes and their own original material.

Between The Earth & Sky is out now and can be purchased here.
