Streaming service currently has a third of paying customers that Spotify boasts

Apple Music has announced that 6.5 million people have continued to use the streaming service with a paid subscription following the end of their initial three month free-trial period.

The figure means that Apple Music has a third of the paid subscribers that Spotify has, whose number currently stands at 20 million (although some US users are paying a $1 three month trial in that figure).

Apple CEO Tim Cook said that another 8.5 million are still using the free trial also, bringing the current total customer base to a figure of 15 million. “I think it’s fabulous, and to have over 15 million on there, and 6.5 million in the paid category, I’m really happy about it,” Cook said at the WSJD Live conference in California, as CNET report. The figures make Apple Music the second most popular streaming service currently in operation trailing behind Spotify. The service was launched in June and includes access to Apple’s own in-house radio station, Beats 1.
