On Friday, September 26, techno producer and Persona Records founder Stewart Walker will be releasing his new album, Ivory Tower Broadcast. Out on Swiss label Mundo Recordings, run by Two Gentlemen and home to The Young Gods among others, it comes after an EP, Accidental Still Life, on the label from earlier this year. The album's title, the press release explains, "refers to a cloistered and elitist mental space removed from practical considerations and criticism [...] a perfect metaphor for a music studio", which seems like a fitting name: the record moves through eleven carefully distilled and densely-layered tracks, where the results of Walker experimenting extensively with physical instruments, namely German zithers and Japanese kotos (take a look at Walker demonstrating them here), grace the hefty pulse of speed-sapped techno, alternating between moments of aerated ambience and heaving rhythmic tension.
