Our Five Years Party: Line-up Revealed!
Luke Turner , August 30th, 2013 10:13

East India Youth, Factory Floor, Grumbling Fur, Perc, Teeth Of The Sea!

So, until now we've kept the line-up of our Quietus - Five Years party on the down-low. The intent behind that was to make sure it was full of you, our loyal and devoted readers, who'd all get there nice and early to see the entire bill rather than just hopping along at the last minute to see the headliner.

Well, with a week to go until the event on September 6th, we're revealing who will be gracing the stage and DJ booths at Corsica Studios for what we think is a bit of a cracking night out. In fact, I'm a bit annoyed that I'm going to be running around sorting stuff out rather than getting expanded as a punter.

Anyway, full information on what's on in Room One and when below, PLUS we decided that as Corsica is one of the best venues in London with a great second room that also features a Funktion One system, we ought to open that up too and use it to explore some of our favourite outer-edges electronic music. Tickets are here and all the info you need for the night is below. Doors are at 21:00 so you've got plenty of time to go and have some dinner/ale/put your finest leather chaps and chain mail vest combo on first. We hope to see many of you there to join us in celebrating some of the finest music being made in the UK today.

ROOM ONE:

22:00 - East India Youth

Not asking young William Doyle to play our birthday party would have been madness, given that he made our 2013 by agreeing to let us set up the Quietus Phonographic Corporation to release the magnificent Hostel EP. In this past five years of lack of sleep, lack of money, a surfeit of stress and stimulants, seeing the reaction to his fantastic music and helping it to get out into the world has been one of the most rewarding things we've done, and we bid a teary farewell to him tonight as he heads off to Stolen Recordings. I am predicting that in 2023, post-fame/drug meltdown, he'll be back to QPC with his experimental Beijing Trilogy.

23:00 - Teeth Of The Sea

There is no arguing with the might of Master, Teeth Of The Sea's forthcoming third album, and their deranged mixture of unusual facial hair, malnourished forms, power Vangelis synths, unhinged shredding and deviance has long made this four-piece one of the best live bands in London, the country, Europe, on earth on the outer reaches of the boundary of the human consciousness where only the Four Horsemen dare to ride.

00:00 - Factory Floor

Well that one wasn't hard to guess, was it? A Dublin newspaper recently remarked that there are NME bands, Pitchfork bands, and that Factory Floor are a Quietus band. Too right! Factory Floor have been a constant in our lives over these past five years with some mind-bending gigs and the constant worry that they might never get round to releasing an album. We're always of the view that tough music doesn't have to be alienating, and Factory Floor seem to have that at the core of their being. We've been hankering after hearing them play through the Corsica system for ages now, and this promises to be very special indeed.

01:00 - 03:00 - John Doran

...and we'll be finishing this off with John Doran of the Quietus, Big Sexy Land and the Oh The Gilt remixing team playing a set of the ABCs - anthems, bangers, classics - from space disco to punk funk to acid house to cosmic disco.

ROOM TWO:

22:00 - Rory Gibb

Hyperspecific's Electronic Tracks Of 2012 by The Quietus on Mixcloud

Our new music editor and electronic music expert Rory will be opening up in Room Two... playing a bunch of the current 12" he's been writing about for us in his Hyperspecific column and elsewhere (Resident Advisor, Wire) - check out a recent BleeD radio show Rory co-hosted on Rinse FM here. Max from Colony (the excellent club night where we're often found) says "Rory is the new Ben UFO" - and he's a wise sort.

23:30 - Grumbling Fur Soundsystem

In the sparkling and otherworldly Glynnaestra, Daniel O'Sullivan and Alexander Tucker have made one of The Quietus' favourite albums of 2013. That they're two of the most forward-thinking artists working in the UK is evidenced by yet more music from the pair in the form of new albums from Tucker's Imbogodom and O'Sullivan's Miracle projects. They'll be turning up with the no-doubt magical Grumbling Fur Soundsystem to put a mind-expanding twist on the music of their own and others.

00:20 - 02:30 - Perc

Over the past couple of years, Ali Wells has provided The Quietus with some fearsome dancing opportunities both on (his set at Colony's Summer Rave the other week was a highlight of the night) and off the dancefloor - his set for Boiler Room's FC Judd tribute had us busting our office chairs when it was broadcast on a Thursday afternoon. Though his mastery of the tougher end of techno precedes him, Perc isn't one for simply deploying the heavy artillery - he is a wise and subtle guide through steel canyons.
