Listen to a song by Chelsea Light Moving

Thurston Moore has started a new band, named Chelsea Light Moving, alongside Keith Wood (guitar), Samara Lubelski (bass) and John Moloney (drums). The band have signed to Matador, who released Sonic Youth's last album The Eternal, for the release of forthcoming material. Though they haven't as yet released any details about an album, they've already made a track, entitled 'Burroughs', available for your listening pleasure - you can hear it here [right click, save as].

As you might expect from Moore, the guitar work on 'Burroughs' has a distinctly Sonic Youth-y edge, all frazzled harmonics and chugging verse riffage. Unsurprisingly given the title, it's inspired by the work of William S. Burroughs. In the words of the label: "After sitting in the orgone box planted in Burroughs’ back yard of Lawrence, Kansas in the midpoint of the 1990s, Thurston Moore came to the realization that at some point he’d need to form a band that played Burroughs Rock. This is the sound of Wild Boys looking to jack hypos of core passion into their veins. Boy on boy. Girl on girl. Start there. It’s not even music – it’s an amphetamine sonnet for the on-the-loose lovers of the world."

The band have already announced a series of dates in the US, and promise that another new song will be released next week, and that more information about a proper Chelsea Light Moving release will arrive soon. Watch this space. You can read the full announcement at the Matador website.
