Andrew WK Talks About His First Book
The Quietus , January 5th, 2009 10:13

Party-starter, motivational speaker, dub-reggae producer… Andrew WK is many things to many people, but he can now add author to his long list of achievements with the publication in Japan of his first book I Will Change Your Life. There’s only one problem- he can’t read it.

WK recently discussed the book – a compilation of five years worth of advice columns for monthly Japanese music magazine Rockin’ On – in a interview with SmartAssRadio.com: “I just apologize to anyone who doesn't read or speak Japanese, including me, because I can't even read the book. I don't even know exactly what it says, that's the weirdest thing about it.”

Reacting to a question that maybe they’d just put his face on it and changed the content, WK mused: “That's a big risk. Believe me, I've thought about that possibility quite a bit. But I trust the man who put it together and the magazine who published it I've been working with for a long time, so I think they probably wrote what they said they would.”

The white-clad rocker has been busy in Japan in 2008, repeatedly scoring high in the ringtone charts with a succession of 30-second English-language versions of hit Japanese pop tracks. Fantastically, full-length versions of the songs have been collected on a new album, Japan Covers, released in Japan in November.

Those hungry for more Andrew WK motivational wisdom will be pleased to know he’s currently in the January ‘Meaning of Life’ issue of the American Esquire magazine, pontificating on the nature of reality alongside a philosopher and a theoretical physicist. Party Til You Puke!
