Merbow Plans 40th Anniversary Live LP

Japan's Masami Akita will mark four decades as Merbow with a Room40-released live album

This year marks four decades since Japan’s Masami Akita launched Merbow, his noise-based project, and now Lawrence English’s Room40 label has announced plans to release a live album from the musician to mark the milestone.

MONOAkuma is a live recording captured at the Institute Of Modern Art in Brisbane in 2012. You can check a trailer for the release above.

"What I recall most about this performance is the sense of utter euphoria that was shared by everyone present," English says of that show in Brisbane. "Not many people tend to dwell on this affective capacity of Merzbow’s work, but there is no question – this is about the body and the ears being overwhelmed."

Room40 will release MONOAkuma on November 30. You can pre-order it here.
