James Holden Returns With First Studio Album In Five Years
Christian Eede , January 11th, 2023 14:10

'Imagine This Is A High Dimensional Space Of All Possibilities' is out in March

James Holden has shared details of his first studio album in over five years.

Spanning 12 tracks, Imagine This Is A High Dimensional Space Of All Possibilities sees Holden look back to the teenage years in which he explored rave music from a distance, unable to attend parties. Alongside the album's announcement, he's shared lead cut 'Contains Multitudes', which combines synths, tabla, piano and violin. You can listen to the track above.

In a statement about Imagine This Is A High Dimensional Space Of All Possibilities, Holden said: "I wanted this to be my most open record, uncynical, naive, unguarded, the record teenage me wanted to make. I used to balance my clock-radio on a wardrobe to catch the faint pirate FM signals from the nearest city, dreaming of what raves would be like when I could finally escape and become a New Age traveller."

The album features guest contributions from some of the Animal Spirits touring band that Holden convened for his last album, The Animal Spirits, and also makes use of modular synths; keyboard; organ; piano; bass guitar; recorder; various percussive instruments including the tabla; field recordings; and Holden's childhood violin.

He will launch the record with a live show at London venue EartH on April 13. Find more information on that show here.

Border Community will release Imagine This Is A High Dimensional Space Of All Possibilities on March 31, 2023.
