The Icelandic artist's tenth studio LP is due out later this year

Björk has shared details about her forthcoming album in a new interview.

Speaking to The Guardian, she revealed that her tenth studio album is called Fossora and will be released via One Little Independent this autumn. The album takes its name from the feminine version of the latin word for 'digger', and the article also confirms that the record features contributions from Gabber Modus Operandi, serpentwithfeet, and Björk's son (Sindri) and daughter (Doa).

The album was written and recorded in Björk's home city of Reykjavik, with inspiration for the record emerging from a series of small raves she hosted at her home among her tight-knit bubble of friends and family during the COVID-19 pandemic. At those events, she was particularly drawn to playing gabber music, with the genre's hard and fast sound ultimately coming through in Fossora, alongside a sextet of bass clarinets and other features.

Speaking to Gabber Modus Operandi about contributing to the record, Björk recalled in the article that she described Fossora as her "mushroom album. It's like digging a hole in the ground. This time around, I'm living with moles and really grounding myself."

The album's full tracklist is still yet to be announced, but the article does confirm the title of some of its tracks: 'Atopos', 'Fungal City', 'Sorrowful Soil' and 'Ancestress' – the latter two are tributes to Björk's late mother, who passed away in 2018, aged 72.

One Little Independent will release Fossora in autumn 2022.
