Julee Cruise, the singer who had a long working relationship with David Lynch, has died, aged 65.

Confirming her passing in a Facebook post, her husband, Edward Grinnan, wrote: "She left this realm on her own terms. No regrets. She is at peace. I played her [The B-52's song] 'Roam' during her transition. Now she will roam forever. Rest in peace, my love."

Cruise was perhaps best known for her 1990 dream pop song 'Falling', a vocal version of Angelo Badalamenti's iconic Twin Peaks theme music which peaked in the UK singles charts at No. 7. It was also a hit across Europe and topped the singles charts in Australia, having originally appeared on her debut album, 1989's Floating Into The Night.

Born in Iowa in 1956, Cruise first worked with David Lynch on his 1986 film Blue Velvet, with her Badalamenti collaboration 'Mysteries Of Love' appearing in the movie. Four years later, she played the role of The Dreamself of the Heartbroken Woman in Lynch's avant-garde theatre production Industrial Symphony No 1, which also starred Nicolas Cage and Laura Dern.

Further roles came in Twin Peaks and its film spin-off Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, while she reignited her working relationship with Lynch in 2017 for Twin Peaks: The Return, the third season of Lynch's series.

In addition to her work with Lynch, Cruise was a touring member of The B-52's during the 1990s, and released three further albums after her 1989 debut: 1993's The Voice Of Love, 2002's The Art Of Being A Girl and 2011's My Secret Life.

Her most recent release, the 2018 EP Three Demos, featured the original demo versions of her tracks 'Falling', 'Floating' and 'The World Spins'.
