Nicolás Jaar has curated a new compilation of Polish experimental music from the latter half of the 20th century.

Split into two parts, Would It Sound Just As Bad If You Played It Backwards? is made up of recordings created at the Polish Radio Experimental Studio, a creative space in Warsaw, between 1959 and 2001. Among the artists whose music is featured on the release are Magdalena Długosz, Elżbieta Sikora, Włodzimierz Kotoński and Bogusław Schaeffer. (The latter's music is also the focus of Matmos' just-released new album.)

The release through Jaar's Other People label is presented alongside images by Warsaw artist Zofia Kulik, while Jaar has also produced a mix featuring selections from across the two parts of the compilation, which you can listen to here. Would It Sound Just As Bad If You Played It Backwards? follows on from Jaar's involvement in the Unsound-commissioned Weavings collaborative project, which he spearheaded. The music created as a result of the commission was released earlier this year through Unsound's label.
