Christian Eede , July 21st, 2021 16:51

'Moebius Strips' includes original music by the late artist, as well as reinterpretations by Sarah Davachi, Geoff Barrow and more

The life and work of the late Dieter Moebius, of the bands Cluster and Harmonia, is to be the focus of a new audio installation.

Moebius Strips, which has been put together by composer Tim Story and Moebius' widow Irene, incorporates thousands of samples, noises, loops and other recordings by the artist that have been reimagined in "patterned strips." There are also reinterpretations of Moebius' music included, by the likes of Sarah Davachi, Portishead's Geoff Barrow, Jean-Benoit Dunckel of Air, Yuri Suzuki, Devo's Mark Mothersbaugh, and Cluster's Hans-Joachim Roedelius. You can listen to a brief teaser of the installation's audio above.

The installation will debut in November at the Witching Hour Festival in Iowa City. It's intended to then be displayed at a number of other public spaces, such as museums, galleries and festivals. The audio of Moebius Strips, including the various reinterpretations of Moebius' music, will also be released as an album via Curious Music. A CD edition is expected to be released in October this year, while a vinyl release is planned for 2022.

Curious Music will release Moebius Strips in October 2021.
