Årabrot have released a surprise new EP, The World Must Be Destroyed, and revealed news of their next studio album.
Norwegian Gothic, their first album since 2018’s Who Do You Love?, is due out in April with its lead track due to be unveiled soon.
In the meantime, you can hear The World Must Be Destroyed in full above. The EP is made up of songs written and recorded during the sessions for Who Do You Love?. They are all inspired by French writer Antonin Artaud’s infamous novelised biography of the third-century Roman Emperor Heliogabalus.
As well as the band’s central creative partnership of Kjetil Nernes and Karin Park, the EP features contributions from Dana Schechter (Insect Ark / Swans), Andrew Liles (Current 93 / Nurse With Wound) and tubaist Kristoffer Lo (Highasakite / Motorpsycho).
In a statement about their new work, Årabrot said: "The revolution will come soon. All this will be destroyed. The world must be destroyed. Amen. For years I have been waiting for Antonin Artaud’s mad words to catch up with the actual world and THANK GOD for the virus – here it finally is. This is The World Must Be Destroyed."
Pelagic Records will release Norwegian Gothic on April 6, 2021.
