Glastonbury has been called off for 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a message shared via social media, organisers Michael and Emily Eavis said: "With great regret, we must announce that this year's Glastonbury Festival will not take place, and that this will be another enforced fallow year for us.

"In spite of our efforts to move Heaven & Earth, it has become clear that we simply will not be able to make the Festival happen this year. We are sorry to let you all down."

Deposits on tickets for last year's intended event, which was also cancelled due to the pandemic, can be carried over to 2022, when the festival hopes to be able to return. "We are very appreciative of the faith and trust placed in us by those of you with deposits, and we are very confident we can deliver something really special for us all in 2022."

Glastonbury is one of the first major summer festival casualties of 2021, though increased uncertainty around the COVID-19 pandemic as vaccines begin to be rolled out in some nations means others are likely to follow.
