The line of branded masks suddenly sold out over the weekend as the outbreak of COVID19 worsens

A line of branded surgical masks on Korn's online merchandise store sold out over the weekend amid continuing fears over the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, AKA COVID-19.

The items had been on sale since last year via the band's online store at a price of $11, but are now no longer available as a result of increased interest brought about by the panic surrounding COVID-19.

The merchandise item is expected to be restocked next month. An important disclaimer on the website does however point out that masks like these are not completely effective at preventing infection from coronavirus or any other disease.

"Surgical masks are not considered respirators by OSHA," the disclaimer advises. "They are fluid resistant, disposable, and loose-fitting protection that create a physical barrier between the mouth and nose of the wearer and potential contaminants in the immediate environment.

"Surgical masks do not seal tightly to the wearer's face, nor do they provide a reliable level of protection from inhaling smaller airborne particles or viruses."

The spread of COVID-19 around the world has in the last week resulted in the cancellation of a number of events, including SXSW in Texas, Ultra Music Festival in Miami and Organik festival in Taiwan.

French authorities also today (March 9) announced plans to shut down events that involve gatherings of more than 1000 people until April 13, while a number of other nations are considering similar orders.
