Bobby Krlic, AKA The Haxan Cloak, is set to release a new album featuring music from his soundtrack for forthcoming Ari Aster film Midsommar.

The film's script was written entirely to Krlic's music by Aster with the director later going on to ask him to produce its soundtrack as a result.

"In addition to the more traditional underscore, Krlic was also responsible for the music that exists within the narrative of the film itself, the music that the characters play and sing inside the film," explains a press release. "The script was written so the characters would have these wordless, atonal, ritualistic songs. So, Aster and Krlic developed a vocal language for the characters in the film to sing and sourced all traditional Nordic instruments, like such as a Hurdy Gurdy and a Key Harp, to record with."

Krlic last delved into film soundtrack work in 2016 when he contributed to the score for Almost Holy alongside Atticus Ross and Leopold Ross.

"Trying to live up to the expectations of a director who wrote the script to my music was an intimidating task," says Krlic. "In the end I believe it's been the most rewarding and deeply educational experience I've ever had. Not only was working with Ari Aster an honour, but the work was a true collaboration."

Krlic's last record as The Haxan Cloak, Excavation, came out in 2013 via Tri Angle. Milan Records will release his score for Midsommar on July 5 and the film is set for release on July 3.
