The Who! – The Kids Are Alright
I loved The Who! because they were wild, but they also did pop songs. I saw them in 1966 [by which time Horn had moved down to Leicester with his parents]. Then I supported them in 1968. I did! I was playing with the Eric Upton Band, this little semi-pro band from Coalville. The Who were playing at Leicester University top of the bill (this was June 1968], and we were there too, playing some dinner music. To see people playing the guitar, drums and bass like that on stage, so free but so melodic, was great. The best music's all about that kind of energy.
