Kent community festival Profound Sound has been confirmed for early February 2019. The first wave of acts announced features Warp Records’ Tim Exile, Liverpool collective Ex-Easter Island Head and hardcore band, Watchcries. The weekend will also play host to a diversity of talks, workshops and DJ sets.

Curated by Arts Organisation Folkestone Fringe and Kent record store, Hot Salvation Records, the festival aims to springboard the experimental, and bring alternative sound to the South East. In 2019, the festival returns for its fourth year.

The organisers told us about their plans for next year's event "As a team, we're excited about new and experimental music of all kinds. Di and Denice run the Folkestone Fringe throughout the year, an arts organisation that is integral to the many great things that happen in Folkestone, and my partner Natalie and I run Hot Salvation, a small indie record store in the town. We're busy putting gigs and events on all year too, but PS is a really good chance to collaborate! The wider team has producer Cherif Hashizume (Jon Hopkins, Kelly Lee Owens), Anil Sebastien ( London Contemporary Voices) and Reece Thomas of Vanity Pill Tapes all throwing in a wide range of ideas each year for what is now really expanding year on year.

"We get to bring subversive music to East Kent, and with the assistance of Arts Council, and other local funds, we can keep ticket prices low for evening shows, and participation in workshops and events free of charge. Folkestone has suffered economically as much as any other provincial coastal town in the UK, and it's vital that there is music to come and experience, an offering that's a little strange for most, but is welcoming, safe and fun! All our daytime programs and workshops are free for people to attend, and we encourage all groups to come and be part of the festival.

"We're excited to have Phantom Limb on board as a curator this year also, bringing Hekla (from Berlin), plus more TBA, for an evening performance and a day time theremin workshop. In fact, nearly all of our evening performers are also doing workshops or seminars during the weekend. it's so important that audiences can interact with musicians, and be inspired. There is a plethora of opportunities for local artists to perform on the bill, and we hope this mix of events will give young people (or old people!) the confidence to start making music, feel that they have something to come and get involved and take ownership in."
