To mark the deluxe reissue of Max Richter's The Blue Notebooks, the composer has shared a new short film starring Elisabeth Moss

With Max Richter's acclaimed project The Blue Notebooks set for a super-deluxe reissue, the composer has shared a new short film to mark the occasion.

On The Nature Of Daylight, named for the second track on The Blue Notebooks which soundtracks it, stars the Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning actor Elisabeth Moss, Richter's self-professed 'biggest fan' and the lead and executive producer in the acclaimed TV series The Handmaids Tale.

Moss produced the film, alongside Richter’s creative partner Yulia Mahr, Stefan Demetriou, Tarquin Glass and Max Brook, which is envisaged as a response to themes raised by Richter’s original composition Richter has described the work as "a meditation on violence and its repercussions, inspired both by the Iraq war – which was looming – and my own experiences."

Moss said of the experience: "When I was asked to do this project it was a dream come true. My work has been inspired by his music for so many years and not a day goes by on set where I don’t have Max’s music playing in my ears before a take. His music and my acting have gone hand in hand for a long time. So for me the opportunity to act to one of his most prolific pieces was such an incredible honour."

The forthcoming new edition of The Blue Notebooks is released on June 29, in order to celebrate the 15th anniversary of its recording in 2003 (it was not released until the following year). It comes in a variety of formats, including as a hardcover 2 CD book set with a real notebook, which contains its own new and exclusive track, 'Cypher'.

It will also be available on double Vinyl LP, and as a standard double-CD, both of which contain other bonus tracks and remixes.
