2017 marks the third edition of the band's mini-festival in Newcastle with Beth Orton, Neville Staple and more featured on the bill

The Unthanks have announced initial details of the third edition of their Home Gathering mini-festival set to take place in Newcastle this September.

Spanning two stages at Newcastle's Hoults Yard, the lineup naturally includes the Unthanks, and will also take in appearance from ska veteran Neville Staple, Beth Orton, Joan As Police Woman, Dutch Uncles, The Blockheads and more.

Rachel Unthank and The Winterset will perform The Bairns in celebration of the album's 10th anniversary, alongside the Unthanks' headline set at the festival also, while there will be comedy from acts such as Graham Fellows aka Jilted John and Henry Normal.

Hoults Yard is an atmospheric post-industrial site near the Ouseburn in Newcastle. Besides the main performances in two indoor venues, Home Gathering also promises "flashmob-style surprises" and local food and drink stalls with the band hosting and curating the festival independent of outside backing and funding.

The band's keyboardist and producer Adrian McNally says of the festival: "We have a hand in every detail to ensure that despite our own largely miserable music, it will be a party from start to finish. Having covered a lot of musical ground ourselves as The Unthanks, we know we are very lucky to have an openminded and venturesome audience, ready to trust and join us on our journeys. We have treated the chance to host our own festival with the same multifarious, magpie-like approach, and what we hope most of all, is that people will go home having loved something they weren’t expecting to."

Home Gathering takes place from September 15-17. For more details and to book tickets, click here.
