It's not just tQ's series of COUM curations that make this year's celebrations for Hull's 2017 City of Cuture status worth seeing.

As well as our involvement, members of Goldfrapp, Sonic Youth, St. Etienne, the BBC Concert Orchestra and more will contribute to Mind On The Run: The Basil Kirchin Story, a three day celebration of the composer and former Hull native's music at Hull City Hall this February.

Friday 17th February sees a screening of the 1971 British horror film The Abominable Dr. Phibes, which was soundtracked by Kirchin, and will be accompanied by live music from pianist, organist and composer Alexander Hawkins on the Hull City Hall pipe organ.

Saturday 18th February boasts a day of free talks separated across different eras of Kirchin's life, as well as 'Journey To The Unknown', a performance by Joe Acheson's Hidden Orchestra, an improvisational show based around the composer's music, featuring Kirchin collaborator Evan Parker and Spring Heel Jack.

A DJ set from The Specials' Jerry Dammers exploring the world of library music opens the final day on Sunday 19th February, followed by a culminating live show, Mutations Of Musical Modernism, by curator Will Gregory, composer Matthew Bourne and The BBC Concert Orchestra, to be broadcast on BBC Radio 3.

Among a series of performances devised especially for the final show, special guests an audio-visual work by St. Etienne's Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs, a new piece by Ivor Novello nominated composer Matthew Herbert, as well as contributions by Sonic Youth's Jim O'Rourke, Will Gregory, as well as music by Kirchin himself.

Tickets are individually priced across the weekend, ranging between £6 and £20. They are currently on sale here.
