Labour leader will make an appearance at the festival

Jeremy Corbyn will speak at this year’s Glastonbury Festival having accepted an invitation from Billy Bragg to speak on the festival’s Left Field Stage.

The speech by the Labour leader will be themed around nuclear disarmament. Writing on the festival’s website, Bragg said: “The election of Jeremy Corbyn as Labour leader galvanised a new generation of activists and this year at Left Field we aim to give them a platform to discuss issues around social justice, the economy, gender and the possibilities for genuine change under a Corbyn government.

As FACT reports, Michael Eavis, organiser of the festival, said: “The worker’s beer company and myself started the Left Field tent, following our tradition of campaigning for CND and helping the miners who were totally destroyed by Maggie in the ‘80s.” A spokesman for Corbyn, meanwhile, told The Mirror that “Jeremy has long been a fan of Glastonbury, and is looking forward to attending as a guest of the CND (Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament) and the festival organisers.”

Corbyn joins the likes of LCD Soundsystem, PJ Harvey, New Order, Cyndi Lauper and many more who were all announced last week to play this year’s edition of the festival.
