Chicago band surprise-release album, available as a free download for a limited time; Jeff Tweedy: "What's more fun than a surprise?"

Overnight, Wilco have surprise-released their new album, Star Wars, which is currently available to download for free from their website. There's not too much information about the record, their first since 2011's The Whole Love, other than it featuring 11 original songs, with the band's frontman Jeff Tweedy and Tom Schick producing. In a post on Instagram, Tweedy wrote: "Why release an album this way and why make it free? Well, the biggest reason, and I'm not sure we even need any others, is that it felt like it would be fun. What's more fun than a surprise?"

Stereogum report that the album will also see a physical release through the band's dBpm label. For now, get the album while you can, stream it in full below, and read our interview with Tweedy from last year here.
