Filmmaker Melvin Van Peebles joins up with Quietus favourites Heliocentrics for new double LP; listen, and download, The Cavern below

Have a listen to the brand new collaboration between a duo of Quietus favourites: the eclectic Heliocentrics and luminary director of Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song, Melvin Van Peebles. 'Chapter 05 - The Cavern (Instrumental)' - available to download for free from label Now-Again's website - is the first offering from the joint effort The Last Transmission, a project which has been discussed for over six years and will finally be released on October 7. The third Heliocentrics release for Now-Again, it follows Out There in 2007 and one of our favourite albums of last year, 13 Degrees Of Reality.

Despite its atmospheric warmth, 'The Cavern' is an ominous offering that circles intently around an unsettled brass theme, never seeking to resolve the cadence that the listener craves. The piece is taken from the second disc of release, an expanded instrumental selection said to be inspired by Van Peebles' vivid imagery. The film-maker served as both musician and muse for the collection, with his spectral voice and studies of cosmology and astronomy in the 50s helping to enable what Heliocentrics' Malcom Catto and Jake Ferguson consider to be a "defining work".
