The experimental vocalist announces split EP with Prayer

Los Angeles-based sound designer and vocal alien Katie Gately will release a lathe-cut vinyl EP on May 5 through FET Press. A split with the Hudson, New York label's co-curator Joe Houpert, recording under his Prayer guise, the run will be very strictly limited at a mere 30 copies. Thankfully, there will also be a digital version available for download via Bandcamp. As with her 2013 release Pipes, one of the Quietus' favourite tapes of last year - our Spool's Out columnist Tristan Bath writing, "The opening hums quickly develop into a loudening dissonance, suddenly snapping into a series of surreal marches and chants littered with tick-tock rhythms, and saturated with a nightmarish peril [...] Pipes is the year’s best example of mind-numbing aural extrapolation, and Katie Gately’s destined for further greatness" of it in his end of year round-up - the EP will be an exercise in vocals-only manipulation for both artists, with Gately telling us she's been "playing with some different vocal processing ideas and new tools on there that have been really fun to explore."

In further news, Pipes itself is set for a reissue by Blue Tapes, the label who put out the original run, with new packaging; stay tuned to their website for updates. In the meantime, have a listen to an excerpt from Pipes below:
