Night Of Psychotronic Soundtracks Ahoy!

Filmbar70 and El Diabolik host an adventure in audio at Roxy Bar & Screen

Running until September 29 at pubs, parks, pop-ups and actual picture houses across the nation, DIY screening smorgasbord Scala Beyond launched in epic and eclectic fashion amid the sultry confines of London's Roxy Bar & Screen on Saturday night, with a six-hour 'film jam' comprising cherishable obscurities and exotic trash presented tag team-style by the capital's cinema clubs. Take a bow the good people of Cigarette Burns, Filmbar70, BFI Flipside, Passengerfilms, London Short Film Festival, DaysAreNumbers, Suitcase Cinema, Video Tape Swap Shop, Duke Mitchell Film Club and music maestro El Diabolik.

The season continues this evening at the same venue, where Filmbar70 and El Diabolik are promising to "take you by the ear and trawl the wild and way-out grooves of the Psychotronic soundtrack." Expect a synapse-tickling ride (with clip 'n' chat signposts) from 1960s beach party and whistling Spaghetti Western fare through to the Moog-led dawn of the synthesizer, via African-American cinema sounds, avant-garde Kino klangfarben and all manner of prog- or jazz-infused exploitation scores. Attendees will receive a free exclusive Psychotronic mix CD and are encouraged to bring suitably filmic vinyl (or just have requests in mind) for some after party dancing. The event starts at 7pm and tickets are a mere £5; more information here.
