Eight tracker, Future Rhythm Machine released on 14th May

Glaswegian producer Auntie Flo is putting out a new mini-album through Huntleys & Palmers, set for release on 14 May. Future Rhythm Machine contains eight tracks, including the JD Twitch-approved ‘La Samaria’, which features a guest vocal from labelmate Mamacita. That track is a tweaked version of an earlier, unreleased incarnation, which Huntleys & Palmers say first inspired them to set up the label. Watch the trailer for the album below for some preview snippets:

As the title suggests, the songs are heavy on the rhythmic side, taking in a variety of influences from African and Latin percussion to Chicago house. Auntie Flo says he took inspiration from Kodwo Eshun’s concept of the ‘futurhythmachine’, which, as he explains in the text accompanying the album, “disputes the western futurist pre-occupation with noise in favour of rhythm - it is the rhythm machine which joins the dots between all music of the black atlantic from Afrobeat and Highlife to Techno, Soul and Hip Hop... When I listen to African music i hear new rhythms, new possibilities and a glimpse into another world.” The futurhythmachine was a key facet of Eshun's book More Brilliant Than The Sun: Adventures In Sonic Fiction, itself well worth a read.
