Quietus Mix 58: Yours Truly, From Lindstrom
The Quietus , February 20th, 2012 12:32

After Thursday's punisher from Dead Sound & Videohead, something smooth but no less odd in our mix series thanks to Lindstrom

"I have no idea whether it makes sense to anyone other than me," said Lindstrom of his new album Six Cups Of Rebel. If that LP suggests that he's taken a turn into pastures new with prog, then this mix suggests that it might only be the beginning. It veers wildly from much-lauded and/or ridiculed guitar virtuoso Steve Vai to R Stevie Moore, the outsider musician's outsider musician who is currently undergoing a resurgence in popularity. The same goes for the weird proto-Lightning Bolt, Hammond organ metal duo Atilla, an early project of none other than Billy Joel. Their album fetches hundreds of pounds at auction - which admittedly may be for the cover just as much as the music, given that it features Joel and his mate dressed as Eastern European tribal warriors, standing in a meat locker full of slabs of beef hanging from hooks. Listen below, and see what the hell you make of the sound of the inside of Lindstrom's head.
