Bakers Dozen: Deftones' Chino Moreno Chooses His Top 13 Albums

Today we give Deftones Chino Moreno the Bakers Dozen treatment, asking for his thirteen favourite albums, and finding out why he loves them

When you look at Chino Moreno’s selections for his Bakers Dozen favourite albums, it’s hardly surprising that Deftones were able to escape the moronic nu metal mire that were at first part of. In fact, so catholic are the musical tastes of Moreno and his group there are probably some omissions here that you might find startling – no Cure, Depeche Mode, for instance. But Moreno, speaking from the bowels of a provincial UK venue, explains that he was having such bother narrowing down his own list for us that he had to set himself a special challenge: “It was pretty difficult, I gave myself a time limit so I couldn't overthink it, that would have taken forever.” He also insists that this is very much a personal selection, and not representative of Deftones as a whole: “If you asked anyone else in Deftones for this list you'd probably get 13 other records that were different to everyone else,” he says. So click the image below to see the gallery of artwork for Moreno’s favourite thirteen LPs, and read his own explanations for his choices – for a man who damaged his voice with his harsh singing style, you might be surprised at the inclusion of the mighty smooth Sade, while the selection of Pantha Du Prince suggests he’s more up on the best of contemporary electronic music than you might expect. And if you’ve ever wanted to know what Deftones might want to do with Brian Eno, read on...
