Quietus Mix 003: The Opaque Sounds Of oOoOO
The Quietus , November 17th, 2010 17:26

Mix number three in our series comes from the terrific and mysterious San Franciso-based oOoOO

The groups currently being bundled together in the drag / witch house / bit ill invented genre are not linked by place or socialising, but by an uncanny simultaneous recognition that the current state of Things is rather bleak. The result, from oOoOO’s synths and gizmos at least, is a sound that heads out on a wider exploration than the screwed and overdriven gothisms of Salem et al. It’s not too far wrong to argue that oOoOO owes as much to the music of David Sylvian singing R&B at a funeral as anything nastier, as is well showcased by the recent self-titled EP out on the Tri Angle label. oOoOO have made us a terrific mix that takes in anything from Nico and Sonic Youth to Grouper and more.
