Exclusive Mix From Analog Africa: A Tropical Spring
Ben Hewitt , April 16th, 2010 12:35

As they prepare to release a compilation of music from Anibal Velasquez, Analog Africa put together a collection of tracks perfect for the summer

The Quietus has a special 'Tropical Spring' mix for you to enjoy courtesy of our friends at Analog Africa.

Our mix coincides with Analog Africa's release of Mambo Loco, a collection of songs by the Columbian accordionist Anibal Velasquez, one of the most important contributors to Columbia's Musica Tropical Movement.

So head out into the back garden (or just open a window, if you can't take your computer outside), enjoy the sunshine and revel in the glorious sounds on offer.

A MESSAGE FROM ANALOG AFRICA

Having built its reputation on releasing long-forgotten gems from 70's Africa, Analog Africa is moving its focus to the other side of the Atlantic, more precisely to Barranquilla in Colombia. The next release, "Mambo Loco" (out 14 April), is a compilation dedicated to the works of Colombia's living legend, accordionist Anibal Velasquez.

The Quietus had received a promotional copy of Anibal's works and asked us if we could make a mix for their website. Thus the heads of the Analog Africa Soundsystem, Samy Ben Redjeb and Pedo Knopp, went into a huddle to select round about 30 tracks and this is what came out. The main intention was to create a sunny and warm mix which will be on "heavy rotation" for the spring and summer to come.

As Pedo puts it: "Instead of recording a mix consisting predominantly of the rarest tropical tracks or to create a 'special Anibal' mix for specialists, we've decided to try to catch the vibe we were in during the last few weeks: the beginning of spring, the first sunny days and Anibal‘s positive music sorrounding us most of the time.

The aim of this mix is to try to put you in the same mood while you’re listening to it. We hope you enjoy it and use it as a soundtrack for future summer barbecues, holidays, etc. Feel free to send feedback and comments to info@analogafrica.com."
