Stripes frontman reveals all on Bond soundtrack pressures

Jack White

White Stripes frontman Jack White has admitted he felt "immense pressure" to come up with something special in penning the theme song to the latest James Bond film.

A rock 'n' soul number performed as a duet with Alicia Keys, 'Another Way To Die' has received mixed reviews as the signature track for Daniel Craig's second outing as 007, Quantum Of Solace.

White was in London to attend the premiere last night.

He said: "There was immense pressure. You're living up to thirty or forty years of songs that are so powerful, so resonant and so classic that it's hard to really know what direction to go to, except for powerful.

"That's all I kept pushing myself to do was just be powerful and have an intensity that would knock me over if I was in the crowd."

Asked how he felt the song had fitted in with the film itself, White said: "I only wrote it for that and that's where it works the best. I'm really happy about that."

White named John Barry's theme for On Her Majesty's Secret Service as his favourite of the franchise: "That's my favourite one because it doesn't have vocals in it and it's all power. I think that's John Barry at his best."

Here's the video in case you missed it. For our money, it's not all that bad, although we're not sure about how well Jack's squealy voice meshes with Alicia's silken tones, and come to think of it, there isn't much of a tune to speak of, either. But it's definitely alright.
