Birds and nightclubs unite on new single

After his excellent collaborative reworking album with William Doyle, Erland Cooper is back with a visually focussed rejigging of his recent past. Above you can watch the short film for 'Simmer Dim', a layered psychedelic kaleidoscope of imagery from Cooper's past videos. The film was made by Sapphire Goss, who has collaborated with William Doyle on his Your Wilderness Revisited and whose Eternity City installation runs in Milton Keynes until the end of this weekend - more info here. The song also marks an shift into more electronic, even club-focussed sonics for Cooper, though as ever it still relates to the natural world in his native Orkney. "This is music for the community of the city and of the dancefloor, but it was also inspired by the rituals of migratory birds who often embark on their momentous journeys at night, when the air is clearer and cooler and their circadian clocks are sparked by cues from the sunset," Cooper says. " I hope it captures the essence of these huge journeys and the flight-paths they embark on, intertwined with the turbulence, hedonism and pace of life down below". 'Simmer Dim' is out today and will be followed by The Nightflight EP in October.
