The not-for-profit Swiss Museum and Center for Electronic Music Instruments has launched a Kickstarter campaign to build a public studio.

The plans to open up a 'Playroom' as part of the museum, which houses the world's largest collection of synths, will allow public access to over 1000 synthesisers and 5000 instruments - including drum machines, mixing desks, effects units and more - overall. The gear available will rotate on a regular basis due to the large number of instruments housed at the museum which is based in Fribourg, Switzerland.

Some public backers of the Kickstarter campaign will receive Playroom's first record, which has been created by Dutch producer Legowelt using the collection of synths, with other rewards available also to backers depending on how much they put forward.

As well as recording sessions by appointment, the Playroom will host lectures, workshops and classes when opened with its official launch date, subject to Kickstarter backing, set for November 1. Annual membership will be available, while one-off visits will also be possible.
