William Doyle, who previously released music as East India Youth, has revealed his new track ‘Millersdale’, the video of which you can watch above.

‘Millersdale’ is inspired by Doyle’s coming of age in the British suburbs. Originally finding the swathes of red brick and double glazing to be artificially stagnant - and an uncomfortable backdrop to process the human grief that came with the passing of his father - Doyle re-approached his new landscape, and found a heavy psychedelia locked within the mapped roads.

Speaking to Noisey, Doyle spoke about how the British suburbs are misunderstood: “you think about people with boring lives and boring jobs, or whatever. You don’t think that maybe you’ve discovered some secret; maybe you’ve worked out something about why people live, or how they live.”

The video for ‘Millersdale’ was directed by Sapphire Goss, and explores the asphalt roads of Doyle’s childhood through a collage of sweeping panoramic shots. The video plays heavily with light and projection to induce a sense of deep nostalgia and a lost present, themes Doyle toys with in the lyrics to his new single.

William Doyle plays a London show on September 27 at Chats Palace. To purchase tickets, click here
