LISTEN: Laibach Reinterpret Korean Folk
Patrick Clarke , June 12th, 2018 09:54

To mark today's meeting of Kim Jong-Un and Donald Trump, Laibach have released a track dedicated to the Korean re-unification process

Laibach have released a new track, 'Arirang', their cover of a traditional folk song often seen as the unofficial anthem of both North and South Korea.

The track is released to coincide with today's meeting between the North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un and US President Donald Trump. You can hear it above.

The track was first performed by the band live during their now-infamous tour of the DPRK in 2015. After playing Jeonju in the South last year, they made history as the first band to perform in both North and South Korea.

A film about the band's tour of the country, Liberation Day, was also produced by director, artist and cultural diplomat, Morten Traavik. Watch the trailer here.

The new track also incorporates lyrics from 'We Will Go To Mount Paektu', a well-known North Korean song. The track features Boris Benko on vocals with backing from the North Korean Kum Song Music School Choir from Pyongyang, who appear in the Liberation Day documentary.
