Musical Residency In Romanian Salt Mine

Do you want to go to a series of avant garde concerts in a salt mine? Of course you do...

Our friends in Bucharest, The Attic, are launching the InContext music residency to be held between 21 and 25 June in the Slănic Moldova mountains resort, Bacău district of Romania.

InContext will consist of a series of live concerts, DJ sets, workshops, movie screenings, part of them to take place in a salt mine and to be broadcasted live online via their facebook page.

The four day event features a one month residency programme initiated by Alina Teodorescu (London-based Romanian artist pictured above) aiming to inspire contemporary artists to develop their practice and create work in non-studio and non-gallery spaces -such as Romanian salt mines - through "engaging with new geographies, audiences and socio-economic contexts".

The residency will culminate with a concert at the Târgu Ocna salt mine with Austrian musician Stefan Fraunberger, who will lead a comissioned ensemble formed by Romanian musicians Laurențiu Coțac, Bogdana Dima, Diana Miron, Sian Brie and Călin Torsan. Berlin based artist and musician Melanie Velarde also joins the salt mine line up with a special performance, precedeed by 2 other improv acts by Micleușanu M and Sașa Liviu Stoianovici & Dan Michiu.
