Oliver Coates signs to RVNG Intl. for new track

Oliver Coates has shared a new single marking his signing to RVNG Intl.

'Charlev' is a shimmering, almost jacking cut which positions his work somewhere close to the dancefloor across more than eight minutes of synths and dissonant sound FX. You can listen to the track via the video above.

Cellist and composer Coates has previously pushed his work into more electronic-leaning territory on his 2016 album Upstepping. Still very much present and central to the track is Coates' cello, paired with vocals from Chrysanthemum Bear.

The video for 'Charlev' was put together by Leah Walker. "Instinctually, with visuals, I want to compliment music with a kind of synesthesia," she says. "Maybe it's like love at first sight, that music and image can be fully unrelated but connect so much. Cuba was an accidental base for the video, so I just felt through what I was seeing, scrapbook-style."

Coates will play in support of Thom Yorke at a number of UK shows this summer, taking in appearances at Edinburgh's Usher Hall (June 7), London's Roundhouse (June 8) and the Palace Theatre in Manchester (June 10). He will also play at London's Jazz Cafe alongside Jan Jelinek on September 27. Details on that show can be found here.

'Charlev' is out now.
