Cassette release to finally appear on vinyl

Cosey Fanni Tutti's 1982 cassette Time To Tell, her reflections on work in the sex industry and the dynamic between her and her audience, is to be reissued on vinyl this November. The original release featured writings by Cosey and photographic material, and this will be reproduced in a 16-page colour booklet accompanying the vinyl. There will also be new written and visual material. Speaking to The Quietus' Luke Turner for a feature on eMusic a few years back, Cosey said of the motivations behind Time To Tell that "I'd stopped doing art actions then, and was just going to focus on the music, so it was a nice point in my life for me to get everything together, put it in a little package, and put it out there, so I could just forget about that for a while.

"People kept asking me about this, that and the other, and there was a lot of misinformation going around at the time. I didn't and don't want the art world to think that I'm just kept in this tiny little gallery and my work is just that; it's not, it's music and it's public. This had a a life of its own, it went outside of the music business, outside the art world, into women's magazines. I think Time To Tell represents everything before, and a cut off point for that kind of action. I came to realise that people expected me to be naked. So obviously I kept my clothes on, and disappointed them. Tough!" The reissue follows Cosey's autobiography Art Sex Music, published by Faber earlier this year, and a forthcoming solo exhibition at Cabinet Gallery, London, opening next week - information here.
