Tengui and Datassette launch new label rejecting constraints of commercial, genre and audience expectations

Misc. is the new UK-based label and creative platform from Tengui and Datassette, which they will be launching this Monday (March 13) with the release of two new LPs.

The label is described as "an evolving repository of audio, artifacts and experimental interventions", aiming to act as "a platform for artists, musical or otherwise, to release new/old/alternative/side projects, free from the constraints of commercial, genre or audience expectations".

The releases will be distributed digitally on a 'name your price' basis with contributors to the label free to develop their projects in the ways that they want to - the label will release music as well as associated artworks, items and objects. Any physical means of release will be priced according to production costs, while the label will maintain a digital presence through its website and manipulating different uses of social media. You can find the website here while their Bandcamp page will launch on Monday.

The first two releases come from Kessler V and Our Grey Lives. The former's Dungeon Ballads is described as "two men, two guitars, some drum machines, software and a basement" with much of the recordings coming from frantic one-take jams. The latter's Cacophonies is described as being made up from an arsenal of FX, "and more channels than you can shake one of those offensively large Sports Direct bags at".

Ahead of their release on Monday, the pair behind the label have gifted us a mix, which you can listen to above. It takes in music from Simple Minds, Byetone, Chris & Cosey, Delia Derbyshire, Cabaret Voltaire, Front 242, Gazelle Twin and many more - a very tasty tracklist indeed.
