Band return with first new material in over two decades

Slowdive have unveiled their first new single in 22 years in the form of 'Star Roving', and you can check it out above.

The track sees the band on typically expansive form with propulsive guitars and the vocals of Neil Halstead taking the lead across the track's near-six minutes. The track marks the band's first since the release of their 1995 album Pygmalion.

“When the band decided to get back together in 2014 we really wanted to make new music," said Neil Halstead of the new material. "It's taken us a whole load of shows and a few false starts to get to that point, but it's with pride and a certain trepidation we unleash 'Star Roving'. We really hope folks enjoy it; it's part of a bunch of new tracks we've been working on and it feels as fun, and as relevant playing together now as it did when we first started."

The band had initially disbanded in 1995 following the release of Pygmalion but reconvened in 2014 for a series of shows which ultimately led to a number of studio sessions in which they recorded a number of new tracks which will form a new album set for release sometime this year. The track and the album will be released by the Dead Oceans label with the band also pencilled in to play at London's Field Day on June 3. You can get tickets for that here.
