Reverence Festival Approaching

Portugal's Reverence Festival boasts an all-star line up and invincible cost-benefit ratio

Reverence Festival offers a wide range of music for anyone interested in the many folds of progressive rock music today. The roster this year ranges from gothic rock legends Sisters of Mercy via a number of internationally acclaimed bands loosely associated with the psych- and stoner-rock genres, to electro-pop pioneer Silver Apples.

The festival is situated on the banks of river Tejo (or Tagus), some 45 kilometres inland from Lisbon. Thanks to the diversity of the bill, cult-classics Killing Joke and The Damned (or, to name another, Hawkwind's Nik Turner) will perform next to upcoming bands, just as an emphasis on British and US-American groups is counterbalanced with a number of lesser-known Portuguese names such as The Black Wizards and local post-industrial heroes Mécanosphère. The latter especially promise to enchant with a strange mixture of glitchy electronics, heavy live drumming and spoken word performance.

Other bands include The Brian Jonestone Massacre, Thee Oh Sees, A Place to Bury Strangers, Dead Meadow, Chain and the Gang, Farflung, Yawning Man and Fat White Family and many more. All of this comes for the unbeatable price of €70 if you book by August 31. After that it's only a meager €10 extra. The festival runs from September 9-11.
