The Quietus Hour: John Doran's 45 45's, 45th Birthday Special TWO
John Doran , July 7th, 2016 11:01

The second hour... well, 1.50mins... of J-Do's 45rpm mix

I woke up this morning and it appears I am still 45… although, I have to admit I’ve talked myself down from the ledge and am starting to get used to the idea. I continue with the second (and final) part of the 45x45rpm show which I started last week to celebrate time’s terrible fucking chariot flapping ever closer to my ankles. This time you’ll be hearing from Fad Gadget on the iniquities of female grooming; Arsivplak bringing the Turkish dancefloor synths; Richard Burton reading Under Milk Wood in dub; The Stranglers prove how good they were at disco. We also hear from North America’s two greatest funk rock groups of the last 50 years (Shellac and Funkadelic); Eccentronic Research Council featuring Maxine Peake invite us into their dream world; feel the pristine scrubbed remain skin on the dirty brexit leather; Studio One covers Aretha; Slum Of Legs being the post punk Fairport, Joy Division getting flexible, a steel band covering Gary Numan... and that's just the first third of the mix.

I hope you enjoy the ska, synth pop, cosmic disco, glam funk and five of the greatest pop songs of all time… all on 7” before we get back to the new music next week.
