Repeater Books encouraging female writers to examine relationships with their favourite music despite occasional "questionable gender politics"

The Repeater Books publishing team has put out a request for female writers asking for submissions on their relationship with music.

The book, Under My Thumb: Songs That Hate Women And The Women That Love Them, will aim to study misogyny in music through the eyes of women taking in contributions ranging between 1000 and 3000 words.

“Women in music are frequently fetishised and objectified both in song lyrics and in real life, viewed purely in relation to men and through their impact on the male ego,” the call-out for submissions says. “But this hasn’t stopped generations of women from loving, being moved by and critically appreciating music – however that music may feel about them."

The book will bring together stories from music writers and fans about artists or songs they enjoy despite questionable gender politics, while also “looking at how these issues intersect with race, class and sexuality.” The deadline for finished submissions is September 1 with the anthology to be published in 2017 and all contributors to be payed.
