CBTR team using record label to issue an album documenting the British summertime as heard by a bee; listen to an excerpt below

Caught By The River are set to begin issuing albums via their own label with the first set for release in February in the form of One from Be, a collaboration between musicians Kev Bales and Tony Foster who have, between them, worked with Spiritualized, Julian Cope, Dave Gahan, Mark Lanegan and many others. You can check out an excerpt from the album above right now.

The four-track album “imagines the sound of British summertime as heard by one of the most important members of the animal kingdom - the bee” taking in a selection of field recordings and the sound of wildlife. Other musicians featuring on the album include Jason Pierce, Youth, cellist Deidre Bencsik, vocalist Camille Buttress and sometime Sigur Ros string section Amiina. You can pre-order it here and check out a blurb from the Caught By The River team below regarding their ongoing Rivertones label which will be issuing the album.

“We started Rivertones a few years back and initially it was just to release a mate's mad track: ‘Under Dubwood’ by the Dubwood Allstars. Basically Richard Burton meets King Tubby in Uptown Llareggub. This was about three years before vinyl got revived and a couple before the Dylan Thomas centenary - as an idea, it was somewhere between just ahead of the curve and 'have they gone fucking mad?' We flipped it with a brilliant track by Richard Norris' Time and Space Machine and went away thinking that our dalliance with record pressing was probably over.

Clearly that thought was cobblers. Since then, we've released a collaborative record with Robert Macfarlane and Chris Watson (The Sea Road, an extract from Macfarlane's The Old Ways set to Watson's inimitable atmospherics) and a soundtrack to a book (Melissa Harrison's At Hawthorn Time).

Be’s One is our first LP release. We spend most of our time listening to heavy drone music. Who wouldn't want to release a record that gets to the very foundation of drone music - the sound of bees in action? The record is confined space rock - the sound of the inside of a hive, something akin to Spacemen 3 recording a series of 21st century outdoor ragas for Touch Records.

There are a few more LP releases due on Rivertones next year. It’s a very diverse set of records with one common thread - all of them perfect soundtracks for horizontal living.”
